April 25, 2011 – On Saturday, Oct 22nd, the NY Shock Exchange will be hosting the 2011 Men’s Roller Derby Association Championships at Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage, New York

The Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) is the premiere men’s roller derby organization in the world. As part of its mission to encourage the growth and development of men’s roller derby, the MRDA hosts the annual championships.

The MRDA’s membership currently includes the most outstanding teams from across the United States. With only the top 6 teams from the MRDA competing for the title in the 2011 Championships, this tournament looks to be one of the greatest competitions of the year. Only one team will skate away with the Athletic Cup Championship trophy.

The New York Shock Exchange is a modern men’s roller derby league based in New York City. Inspired by the flat-track roller derby revolution, NYSE was organized in 2006 and made its public debut in 2007 in a doubleheader bout in Kendall Park, NJ. NYSE is a founding member of the Men’s Derby Coalition (now the MRDA), the largest men’s roller derby association in the world with 11 current member teams across the country.

Men’s Derby Coalition Names Its Inaugural Board of Directors

December 9, 2010 – After a vote on November 30th, the Men’s Derby Coalition has taken its first steps toward defining an infrastructure that can support the MDC’s move toward being a national governing body for men’s derby. Prior to the vote, each league was allowed to designate up to 3 representatives to contribute to the development of the MDC. Representatives from each of the 11 teams, as well as the Officiating Representative voted in favor of designating a pro tem Board of Directors.

The following board members will represent their respective leagues:

Matt Dudzic, aka Virginia Slim – Harm City Homicide

Geno Guerrero, aka G. No Evil – Puget Sound Outcast Derby

Terry Hassleman, aka Peter Rottentail – Central Mass Roller Derby: Mass Maelstrom

Scott Meyer, aka Magnum PIMP – St. Louis GateKeepers

Samuel R. Petersen, aka MC Threscher – Twin Cities Terrors

Jon Rockey, aka Jonathan R – New York Shock Exchange

Jeremy Strecker, aka Streak – Magic City Misfits

Jill Vidal, aka Girl Fawkes – Connecticut Death Quads

David Weir, aka Jewbacca – Race City Rebels

This pro tem Board of Directors have the ability to vote on such topics as proposed policies and operating procedures, insurance options for MDC and non-MDC leagues, and the 2011 season structure. This pro tem Board will enable new MDC members to get to know each other on a professional level, while working to move the MDC forward.

Through early 2011 the pro tem Board intends to continue refining the MDC bylaws, establishing committees and defining official positions. By mid 2011, it will consider electing a new Board of Directors.

MDC 2010 Championships Scheduled for 10/17 in Hagerstown, MD

October 1, 2010 – The very first Men’s Derby Coalition championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17th at Turner’s Skate Palace in Hagerstown, MD. The inaugural season of battle between the Connecticut Death Quads, Harm City Homicide, New York Shock Exchange, and Pioneer Valley Dirty Dozen climaxes on this historic evening. The bout for 3rd place between the Homicide and the Death Quads will kicks things off. Then the Dirty Dozen and the Shock Exchange will play for the final victory. Only one will skate away with the coveted Athletic Cup Championship Trophy.

The rankings of the teams are determined by win-loss records from the 12 game season. Ranking ties between two teams will be broken by point differential in head-to-head matchups. In the event that two or more teams are tied for the same spot, the total point differential for all games in the season will determine the team on top. September 2, 2010: The Men’s Derby Coalition is proud to announce the addition of an Officiating Representative to its organizing team. Miss Trial, head ref of the New York Shock Exchange, recently accepted the position. She has been extremely active in the development of men’s roller derby for more than 2 years. Her position will enable her to provide the organization with additional insight about officiating topics and concerns. Miss Trial is also the second female to be appointed as an organizer for the Men’s Derby Coalition. Connecticut Death Quads appointed their bench coach, Girl Fawkes, to an organizer’s position in 2009.

September 1, 2010 – The Men’s Derby Coalition is proud to announce its newest members, the St. Louis GateKeepers and the Magic City Misfits who will go head to head in their first official MDC bout on Sunday September 26th in Fayetteville, AR at the Starlight Skatium.

The St. Louis GateKeepers established in 2009 has developed into one of the nation’s largest men’s league, and their participation in the 2010 Spring Roll Championship game opened everyone’s eyes to these new up and comers. Representing Florida, the Magic City Misfits founded in April 2009, have done everything to assist the flat track derby community to excel in their region.
